Default cold air intake lenght limits?

im trying to get the air pod filter as far away from the engine bay as possible,

like down behind the front left of the bumper.

apart from ensureing that it wont get wet, is there a particular size/lenght ratio it should be?

ie shorter lenght = larger diameter/longer length = smaller diameter?

any experiences guys?

my friend made a custom cold air intake for his tacoma that went all the way under the car's front bumper. for some reason it killed more gas mileage but it gave him power he never had.

so does this mean that longer might be better?

what sort of diameter was it?

thanks

As long as its the size of your throttle body (or more) you'll be fine.
The longer pipes resonate at a lower rpm. ie AEM cold air intake @ 4000rpm
for me prelude

Just remember the physics of the intake. What you are trying to achieve is this highest amount of pressure that you can. Believe it or not there is an ideal amount of volume that your intake should have. Obviously, it varies from vehicle to vehicle.
yep, 2-2.5" is a good diameter on 1.5-1.6L 3" on anything larger.

how do you calculate that ideal volume?

hell if we knew we wouldnt buy aems fyi aems "tuned" pipe is kind of bs. their performance come from their "velocity tunnel" or whatever they call it.

nah, guys i think ist is a 'function' of engine capacity and diameter, which creates the ideal volume...

how do you calculate correct diameter that will --> correct lenght

ie best lenght for a 3in dia attached to a 1595cc engine = ???

is there a formula out there???!!!

u sure that just isnt the cam profile switching and the engine taking in more air?
