Default code 91 (evap)

Okay so to start off i have a 99gsr in my 96 civic...It was runnin fine and dandy
for bout three weeks without running any codes but all of a sudden "check engine"
light turns on...i checked it out and its giving me a code 91 (OBDII) So i know it has to do with the Evap canister which collects the excess gas vapors and cleans them up a lil i guess but what can be wrong with it??? If i clear the ecu and the car is warmed up, then it wont throw the code again, it only does it when the car is cold....but my car runs fine, and still kicks in vtec great,,,whats going on cuz just looking at that damn light sucks knowing theres something wrong.

ok i have also done quite a few obd2 swaps in the ek chassis. i 2 have got that stupid canister code. check it out.... i have done everything including hard wire the sensor to the e.c.u and replace the canister. the easiest way(besides pulling the check bulc out) is to convert the car 2 obd1 ( skunk harness=$240.00+ obd1 gsr ecu $200.00-275.00.

i had the same problem before in my integra... it was obd2 and i didnt have the canister for it... the cel would always come on when the car was cold... bu once it was warm... i wouldnt see it again until it was cold... i never did get to figure out the problem... the obd2 canisters have a sensor on them though which is what i believed to be throwing the code... i just never got a chance to get one... my guyess would be to put that in and see if it makes a differance... make sure to put all the lines into their correct places though

So your guys cars worked fine too correct? Cuz supposedly i was told that when the cel comes on that the car was running in a safe mode meaning that it would hold back or not perform to its full potential, so i guess that wasnt true...anyone else with some good advice on this?? Should i replace the canister? although they really never can go bad or what??

On 96 civic models the evap canister has no plug. On all other models there is a plug. To get rid of the CEL u will either need to go to a junk yard and get a evap canister from a 97+ civic or a 96+ integra. Than just run the 2 wires from that canister directly to the pin outs in ur ecu. When putting in the canister u are going to have to cut a piece of plastic and connect the vacume hose thing underneath it, u'll understand when u look at it. U can either do this, or u can convert the car to OBD 1.

BTW I have a 96 civic hb, thats why I know this

Wow so everyone that has a 96 civic and swapped to a newer year motor has had to do this?? 1. get newer canister and wire it in and or 2. convert to OBDI

????? I wonder why people dont talk or ask more questions about this then..
