Are you sure it is a 36?

Probably a bad ECU. They start throwing nonexistant codes if they're messed up.

that code 36 is for TCS (traction control system) I'll bet you've have the four plug ecu P13. don't worry driveability will not be affected. this is only a shoft code it only blinks when short the service check connector.

i do have a four plug ecu, thats probably it then. Is there any way i can verify this? Also does it make the car go into limp mode?

no it won't go into limp mode it will work just fine, this is an option that was available for the 4th gen Prelude.

Sorry to pull up an old thread, but there wasn't really an end to it. 

Anyway, im new to ludes and I have just picked up a jdm 4th gen prelude and have an issue with the orange TCS warning light coming on.

I have yet to pull the codes, but i'm sure pretty sure i will get a code 36 (among others, no doubt) Does anyone know what causes the TCS light to come on?

long story short:- the 4WS and TCS light come on, usually seperately, mostly the TCS light, but sometimes they are on together. When the TCS light is on, the car goes into limp mode. . . It chokes, almost to the point of stalling, with the first touch of the accelerator then drives fine but the acceleration isn't as good as it is when the light is off and it only goes up to 6.5k. It goes all the way to 8k when the light is off.

When the 4WS light is on. . . The car pulles like a train, its just the 4WS that goes into fail safe mode.

They appear to be connectedead, i've read it's thru the ABS since the traction control needs to apply the break to whatever wheel need to be controlled.

Any ideas on how to find the cause? Or even where is best to start?
