Code: 21 VTEC spool solenoid valve, WHAT COULD IT BE???
I am throwing this code 21, which is VTEC spool solenoid valve. I'm just wondering what could be wrong? VTEC solenoid? My VTEC still pulls hard.
The wiring seems fine (because VTEC still works). What could be the problem here you think?

do a search, you will find many topics about this code.. well for starts, reset your ecu, check your wiring to your vafc if you have one, (that was hlaf of my problem) and check your oil pan for dents ( the other half of my problem)
hmm your vtec still works?
you 100% sure?
definatley reset your ecu if that dosent work, try a diffrent vtec solenoid.

reset ecu does not fix the problem. it will just pop the light back on later.
i shut off my car and the check light go off for about 25-50 miles then come back on.
no vafc here. i'm running hondata.
oil pan is brand new. brand new built motor 1500 miles.

yes 100% sure. i can hear and feel the pull. i'm on skunk2 cams.
reset ecu does not work guys. it doesn't fix the problem. i need to find out what is
actually wrong not just reset the ecu. thanks for the vtec solenoid adivce...but i need to find/buy one to try it.

try the procedue in the book for the solenoid, I think you just push it a few times to make sure it isn't stuck.
Check the gasket for the vtec solenoid, it has a small screen that sometimes gets clogged from your oil, usually this makes a code 22 thought.
Check your wiring, you could have a short somewhere just enough to get the CEL to come on but vtec still works.
Every now and them I get a code 22, but vtec still works. I think its a wiring issue cause I replaced vtec solenoid gasket, checked solenoid and ****. I just reset ecu and it goes away.

I have the exact same problem. I have a gsr block with b16 head and whenever i hit vtec the CEL pops on and it's always the vtec spool solenoid. But when we looked in the Haynes book beside code 21 it says (gsr only)....maybe since im using a different head but still the obd1 p72, that could be the problem. But everytime i cut the car off the CEL stays off until i hit vtec again or i drive or a long period of time. It gets annoying. My wiring is fine and vtec does pull. I just wish that damned CEL would stay off.

check your oil level, also check your oil pressure - for, vtec relies on oil pressure.
also pull the solenoid and check for blockage..
