Default Coating?!

Has anyone have any experince with coating engine parts? I heard its not recommanded for street use. because the coating may fell off cause execive wear or even jam the piston. is that true? how long can I expect coating to last?

well the CTR pistons come stock with a coating on the skirt. I don't know what else to tell ya on that one. Here's thought.. can rods be coated to help with shedding of oil?

The coating on the ITR/CTR and Type S pistons is a tetra methyl coating which reduces friction... Just as advanracing said I don't really know what else to say.. Latez

I have never of any coating falling off. The coating is impregnated into the metal in most casses. For example the coating they do to berrings is no more than .00002" thick. Same as for the coating for sides of pistons. The coating should last for the life of that part. Since you have to part coated it should last a bit longer than "normal" as well. If you have any quality shop do this you should have no problems at all.

Good info Owen.

My friend Josh has a 500+ whp 300Zx and everything internal on the engine was coated with various temperature and friction reducing coatings from Swain Technologies. I would highly reccommend this stuff. If I ever save enough money to build my engine I will be getting it done.

If done properly, it can greatly help reduce engine wear from what I've read. It also does good stuff for engine brake efficiency (don't really know if that's even the term, or what it means for that matter) If I can find the article from Hot Rod Magazine, I'll post the info.
