Default Clutch/Tranny Question

I have two problems:

1) It's hard to get into first gear. I need to use some force. I find it easier to put it in 2nd then up to first.

2) When in first gear and clutch is not engaged yet (foot is still on clutch pedal), sometimes the engine jerks like I'm in gear, pushes the car like I'm in gear then stalls...but clutch has no engaged, clutch pedal is pressed all the way down.

Please help, TIA.

Check your fluid level and Master cylinder for leaking.

Def sound clutch related especially if the pedal is all the way to the floor.

So you guys think it's the clutch? I don't understand, it's a brandnew clutch and I just dropped in my motor this month, so all I fluids should be full. What about getting in first gear? It's hard to get into first too.

it's got to be your clutch, it's not disengaging completely

Half the time it does this, not always. Can this be fixed or am I screwed until I replace a new clutch?

Interesting...I haven't put on the cover for my tranny either. You're talking about the rubber boot for the lever fork right?

If the rubber boot over the release arm or the cover plate on the bottom of the bell housing are missing, they can let road crud get into the clutch area. The throwout bearing has to slide smoothly on the transmission input shaft area for the clutch to work properly. Failure to clean and grease the part the bearing slides on or replace the throwout bearing are common causes of poor clutch release on all cars. Degraded fluid or air in the clutch hydraulics will also cause the problem, try pumping the clutch pedal a few times and see if that helps, if it does then the fluid should be bled out just like bleeding brakes. The pushrod that connects the clutch pedal to the master cylinder is adjustable. The shop manual gives an adjustment procedure, give that a try too.

I'm missing #5. I can pump the clutch pedal 2-3 times and it's still hard to get into first gear. It's much easier going into 2nd then into first.
