clutch/release bearing issues??....maybe internal problems??..........unable to shift
Car: 91 hatch
engine: 92 LS w/ 10flywheel and exedy organic
aprox 12k miles on clutch/flywheel only been to the track once
As i was driving home i noticed shifting became difficult, managed to make it almost the entire trip home (luckily it was all highway) until i hit traffic. being as i was sitting in first gear i thought i would be fine. then the clutch pedal started feeling off. uneven pressure from top to bottom of pedal travel. as i am sitting with the car in first and the clutch pedal all the way on the floor i heard and felt a small pop come from the clutch. clutch pdeal was dead, pulled over i checked/adjusted the cable and it was fine. the clutch arm was totally free in its movements. so i hiked the 1/2 mile home and came back for the car after traffic was gone. pushed the car while in gear with another car and rev matched so i could shift to get home (at this point stop signs were only suggestions)
so i finnaly get around to diagnosing and i found the release bearing spring had the little hooks sheared off. clutch still has meat left on it and never slipped, PP looks to be fine, and flywheel has no hot spots or grooves. input shaft was lubed properly upon install of bearing w/ clutch. the bolts for the PP were a hair over spec when i checked them before dissassembly (normal ?? ) even though they were proper wheni installed it. the springs on the disc are all still inplace but 2 of them can be spun w/ relative ease. clutch arm and fork are undamaged. trans fluid was still gold colered when i drained it to remove trans
i'm stumped, i know the spring can cause issues but i should still have been able to shift.
cliffs: hard to shift while car is running, clutch arm is free moving, release bearing return spring broke. can easily shift through the gears while car is off.
clutch springs are a little loose but still in place and PP/flywheel seem ok.
any insight
