Default clutch problems help..

hey guys...
anyways monday while driving home on the freeway i shifted in 5th and the clutch gear got stuck...and i couldn't shift it out of the gear until i restarted the car but then it wouldn't allow to shift out of first....so anyways i made it home and tried to rebleed the whole system hoping that there was air in the hydralic line but there wasn't...so i next looked at the master cylinder and it was leaking so i replaced that ...reblead but with no luck ...i then adjusted the clutch pedal out ...bingo it allowed me to shift but only for a mile, and only when the clutch was fully depressed to the floor...anyways im completly stuck and i don't know what to do ...im thinking it could be the slave as well.??? the clutch is new and only has about 600 miles on it so i doubt that it could be it...help please..

I've seen this problem come up before... By the way when you had it in 5th at the beginning you couldn't even get it into neutral without the clutch?? That at first made is seem as though there was something wrong with the fork (ie they might be bent) but after everything else you have said i'm thinking otherwise.. You did this in the exact order that I would have however... Bleeding the line, checking the master cylinder, checking for leaks, etc.. Now since you didn't find any problems there it leaves three things that I can think of; the slave cylinder, the clutch, and the thrust washers... To test the slave cylinder I would first check for leaks aroud it while you have someone push in your clutch pedal... If you find any then that is most likely your problem... Also have them slowly push the pedal in while you feel the release arm pivoting.. If it feels like it is making is full range of travel then you're probably okay there... Then it comes down to the clutch... What car, motor, and clutch do you have?? And your tranny seems to shift in and out of gear just fine when the motor isn't running, correct??? This sorta like becomes the most work to do but it's stll not that bad... You should be able to pull that tranny in about 45mins.. Again I'm hoping that you could find the problem before this but if not then I really don't know any other way to check the clutch.... Once you get that far I would pull the clutch and check the throw out bearing... Did you install it before??? If so what did you torque the pressure plate bolts to?? If they are at stock spec 19flt/lbs they should be fine... Sometimes an over-torqued PP will give you problems like this with the clutch not disengaging... If everything looks cool resurface the flywheel and reinstall the clutch... Now the last thing that I've seen come up once and awhile... With clutches that have a heavier pedals (ie ACT Xtreme and Maxx Xtreme PP's) more hoizontal pressure is applied on the thrust washers which tend to make them wear quickly... I dropped a 1st Gen B16A into my friend's 88 Rex about a year ago and the thrust washers went out after only 6 months.. I'm sure what made it worse was the lack of lubrication because Hondamotorsonline sent him a motor with a dented oil pan and pickup tube that we didn't even really notice till we pulled it apart... Before you go pulling your oil pan and checking the thrust washers see if you can horizontally move your crank within the block... That just shows how much end play you have... At this point it would still be easiest to have your tranny off because you could try to slide the crank back and forth while holding the flywheel... If you think that you can do this step before pulling the tranny then go ahead... I'm just not sure if you get a good enough grip on the crank pulley... It would just save a pulling the tranny etc if this was truly the problem... If there seem to be a lot of play in the crank then I'm will to bet that, that is your problem... If so pull the oil pan etc and install new thrust washers... You should be set from there... Well I hope this helps and I hope that the problem isn't as bad as I made it out to be but Good Luck.... Let me know if you need anything else... Latez
