Closing Transmission Case
Im trying to close up my gearbox here. Replaced the diff and shimmed it all up nice.
I get the case closed all up no problem, and snapring and everything no worries and it is all bound up, does not spin at all unless it is in Neutral.
I think I am either having a problem with the Change Collector or the washer on top of the mainshaft with the little hook thing.
My change collector is very wobbly and in order to close the case I had to reach in with a screwdriver to make sure the collector pin would fit into it's home in the case. When I remove the case (done it 6 times now
) the collector is out of alignment a bit and wobbly. It is bolted down properly and appears to be assembled correctly according to the manual so I don't understand what the problem is.
Is it normal for the change collector to have play in it? And the pin to require a little finagling to line up with the case?
Which way does the top washer with the hook have to face?
Any ideas why this effer wont move when I bolt it all down unless it's in neutral.

The washer orients with the hook facing down. You would know if it didn't fit because it would knock the washer out of the grooves when you put the gear housing on.
The change holder will wobble until it makes it into the blind hole in the gear housing. Same goes for the shift forks. They have to find their way into the blind holes for stability.
Maybe you have the 5th and reverse synchro rings flipped around? The reverse synchro ring has the taller teeth.

Mmm. I didn't take apart any of the shafts, took them out in one piece and set them aside to install diff.
