Default cleaning head and block......questions....

i'm going to be cleaning up a head and block that have been laying in my garage for a month or two. and i'd like to know what you guys have used to clean your blocks, heads etc. etc.

just curious on a cost effective way to make them extra shiney. or look decent.

Gunk Engine Brite, available at Wal-Mart. And a pressure washer for the outside of the block.

like i said. cost effective.

i've heard good stuff about gunk and simple green. are there any certain procedures i should do?

i've also been told you can fill a barrel full of solvent/brake clean/simple green overnight and in the morning just wipe it all off. whats the truth to that?

Hot-tanking isn't expensive, I paid $40 CAD to have my block cleaned, and they even painted it with aluminum paint for me. Worth it imo .. cleaning the block/head by hand sucks, especially if they're covered in years of crap .

Hot tanking is probably the best way to get all the grime off. Make sure you rehone the cylinder walls afterwards because the solvent will "wash" down the walls some.

Yup, it's actually jet washing and not hot tanking, but everyone calls it the same thing when it's not .

The only problem with that stuff is that it "stains" the aluminum. I used it, and it leaves water stains but it doesn't damage anything.
