Take out the set of rockers you want to clay remove the smaller of the 2 slider pins( I use a magnet to get it out of the rocker), place a small ball bearing in the rocker( ball from earing works well) and put the pin back in. You will now see the pin sticks out alittle, when you put the rockers back together it will now lock that rocker with the middle one and the middle one will lock with the end one. The middle one will push into the end one because the plunger is spring loaded. Now squeeze them together with your fingers and put them back in the head. Your now in vtec. Hope this helps

Or you can just swap the pins , but this will only lock one valve into vtec.

Claying won't give you valve-to-valve clearances. If you think that it's an issue.

It'll tell you:
piston-to-valve clearance

piston-to-spark plug clearance

piston-to-head/quench pad clearance

The other way of doing it will tell you piston-to-valve and valve-to-valve, but it can't tell you how much piston-to-head or piston-to-spark plug clearance you have. It's also a little more precise b/c you're measuring with a dial indicator instead of with a machinist's ruler.

For that I just remove the allen plugs on the end and remove the rocker shaft and remove all the rockers except 1 cyl. Then use this ghetto timming belt trick and 3 friendes to hold the head while you turn it over.(it would be easier if you actually put tester spring in that cyl) Now adjust the gears to the max you think you will need to run them and measure.(Use a JUNK timming belt for this)
