Civic auto shifting problems. Need help
Its a 92 civic automatic. Car had no issues untill yesterday. My niece drives the car to and from school everyday which is about 30miles round trip. The car shifts fine but yesterday while she was driving back home, the car would not go past 25mph. I took it for a test drive and I left it in 1st and it drove fine then shift to 2 and it drove fine, then when you go into 3rd or D4 it accelerates for a second then just revs like its in neatral. I also tried driving it normal in D4 and it would shift threw all 1-2nd gear as normal untill 25 when it upshifts towards D3 then it would rev again. I checked the fuild and its red as when it was new. The Level is in the middle of the full mark. What do you think could be the cause? Any help is apprecaited. thanks in advance.
well take the dip stick out and smell it. if it smell burnt her transmission is done, of course it going to be red. well its a 92 civic with 250xxx miles on it, time for a new one since its slipping no cure for that
check the cable to see if it came loose to where it connects onto the shift fork in the tranny. if not then i gurantee that its garbage.
Tranny has 130k but who knows with these auto tranny's. I just dont get how it shifts 1-2nd fine but has no 3rd-4th gear. I can drive in 2nd gear but it just rev's to high. Keep the idea's coming. thanks
Try adjusting the throttle cable to the auto tranny according to the manual. But most likely it's needs a rebuild with new clutch packs. Make sure to use only Honda ATF and makre sure the fluid level is absolutely perfect (repair manual has proper fluid level check).
Cable is adjusted but makes no difference. Does anyone have a rebuild manual for these auto tranny's that I can download. I might play around with a extra one that I have.
