Default Chipping my ECU?

i goin to get my ECU b18c4 running a p72 chipped to disable the following

Knock sensor
Electronic Load Detector
and top speed limiter

only query i have is is it ok to disable the ELD as i have heard mixed oppinions.

also is there anything additional that i could get done when chipping the ECU to add power gains
cheers tesh

since the C4 can be run directly off the P72 (same as the USDM C1) why not use that without chipping it?
The OEM ECU will always run smoother and better than any chip, unless the chip's maps are highly tuned for your setup in multiple different temps.

Personally I'd leave the knock sensor enabled, it's not going to harm anything and may save your engine if you get a bad batch of fuel.

Running without an ELD is not going to harm anything, but you may have stalling or really rough idle issues if it's raining at night at a stop light.
So basically if your car has the ELD setup, why not use it. It's not going to harm anything or reduce the power output if it's enabled.

The speed limiter is the only real thing to disable, but seriouly are you planning to hit >185kph?

disabling things in an ECU should be done based on the hardware avalable to the setup. If you have the knock sensor and ELD hardware keep it enabled.

Since you didn't mention which version of the P72 you have or what your setup is so it's hard to say what you need.

also, the only real way to get power gains is tuning. It's worth the money.

Thw C1 has a knock sensor, the C4 does not, so when the P72 looks for the knock sensor it throws a code so in short the knock sensor does need disabling.

As for the speed limiter its set at 120mph which i hit alot when i had this same engine in my eg.

I didn't know that the c4 didn't have a knock.
learn something every day.

120mph on which track?
I know many areas have higher limits in the UK, but I've never seen a section where anywhere near >112mph is allowed.

I'm not looking to agrue with disabling it, with any bin I create that's one of the first things I do.

do you know if the P72 that came with the C4 has the ELD hardware or atmospheric pressure sensor?

I just looked... the 269 MCU code that came with a C4 that someone pulled on pgmfi.org shows that the ELD enabled as well as the knock sensor. Maybe this was an earlier version of the c4??? or wrong name?

hmmm, strange, i was told thet the c1 has a knock sensor so the p72 looks for one, but the c4 doesnt have one.

The one you pulled of pgmfi could be named wrong, the car the c4 comes from over here is an MB6 which has a p9k ecu. (but then again im not too 'up' on my ecu's)

as for the speed, odviously its not allowed but we all do things were not meant to

there is all kinds of info on the USDM cars and ECUs, and quite a bit about JDM versions but things get all sorts of confused when it comes to EDM.
