Default Knock board removed from ECU

I got a killer deal on a P72 ecu with the knock board removed. The plan is to install this on my "stock" ls/vtec setup. I know since having the knock hardware completely removed the ecu will freak out and throw a constant check engine light. The ecu is not chipped, just missing the knock board.

Is that all it will do? I am not planning on tuning or doing much this engine for a while, will running this ecu without the knock circuitry hurt performance to an extreme level?

No knock board=check engine light=limp mode

The ecu will not run correctly...so its useless unless chipped

Not 100% true.
It's not in Limp mode fully when the KS isn't hooked up or the board is removed. VTEC will still work and your 8200rpm redline will still be active. but it is best if the ecu is reprogrammed since it will be used on an LS/VTEC setup anyways (VTEC kicks on too low 4400-4800rpm); VTEC should be set around 5500rpm.

He will be able to start the car and drive around with it no problem.

Hatch77 ..hit me up if you need reprogramming services
