Default CEL code 8 - TDC sensor?! B18A1

So this is driving me crazy.

I replaced the coil with a new one off eBay.

I've already replaced the following:

Dist cap - oem
Rotor button - oem
Plug wires - ngk
Plugs - ngk
Fuel filter - oem

I also ran a couple bottles of techron fuel injector cleaner through the system.

Then I stumbled upon a thread that says there's a TDC sensor inside of the distributor?!

Any tips on replacing just that piece?

Buy some electrical cleaner and completely clean out the inside of the distributor. Then test it. If it runs right, it's likely that the bearing is going bad, which, when it happens it will sling the red dust of death around the distributor, preventing the sensors from doing their job. If there is oil inside, it's possible the internal seal is so bad it's allowing oil to get inside to prevent the sensors from doing their job. In that case, you can replace the inner seal. In the previous case you will need to buy another distributor since it's basically impossible to replace the bearing for the average Joe.

google "honda distributor red dust of death"

I replaced distributor with another used one.

I also replaced the coil and tps

Same issue!

this bucking only happens and partial throttle and is annoying as fvck!

^ wiring looks good afaik.

I'll give another inspection to the tps and map sensor wiring just to be safe.

Sorry, I posted the swap in the title.

It's an 88 std hatch with b18a1 swap and obd1 conversion harness.

Running crome pro without issue, up until this started happening recently.

Then there is an issue with the wiring. I would probably throw a stock ecu in there just to rule out the ecu or program.

I can't really throw a stock ecu in there bc it's got crower cams and is bored to 2L high compression.

I may may just swap in my s300 and do some datalogging to see if anything shows - although it didn't the last time I checked.

I akso rechecked my grounds, and they all look good.

I have another oem honda tps I can throw on to check also...

I'm also going to inspect vacuum lines / throttle body / intake manifold / cam gears / timing belt.

if the only code is 8, why are you messing with other unrelated sensors?

there is a specific and easy way to test the tdc sensor, simple resistance check. do it to all 3 sensors in the distributor. if they pass, they are good, and the issue lies with a wiring problem. If there's a wiring problem, I would immediately suspect your conversion harness is crap, especially if it's any brand besides boomslang. And ESPECIALLY if you paid less than $60 for it.

^ thanks for your input, but you're way off.

It did in fact turn out to be the tps - after I replaced it with another known good tps (oem honda that I had on a spare set of itb's) - no further issues.

I'm very sorry for Bumping a 5 year old thread like this. But due to forum inactivity it's worth a shot.

Did you end up fixing code 8 - TDC sensor by replacing the TPS? Or did the TDC code return?

Thanks in advance.
