causes of oil pump failure
does anyone know of any? what would be a cause of the gear breaking. i put a b16 in my car and had it for 3 days. i filled oil a little over line and put a teaspoon of oil down each of the cylinders before i fired off the engine. could too much oil blow a seal around the pump causing it to lose pressure or something? i guess will find out soon. i will be taking the head off for ls vtec and i will disassemble block for ***** and giggles.

balance the rotating assembly.
i had an oil pump blow apart before as well, i was using an unorthadox crank pulley, lets just say that will be the last time i ever use that pos.

From what I've read, even full on race cars rarely have honda oil pumps
go bad. They are designed very simply. Only 2 concentric rotors with a
cavity in the middle and a blow off valve with a spring. Not many moving parts at all. Nothing to really break.
What exactly broke on your oil pump?
