Default car wont start - trying to identify a possible short

ok, im trying to identify a possible short somewhere in my wiring. '91 crx d16z6. the car died and wont start still..when it initally happened i found the ignition coil had fried somehow. so i replaced the coil and ignitor and it is still not starting. no spark either (when checkin on cyl 1). my battery (new) was weak after it sat for a week so i unbolted the negative battery cable from ground and then tapped it on ground..and it sparked, which says to me its drawing currency, even tho the battery itself was disconnected. does this sound like a short somewhere???
