My sisters civic is an automatic and all the gears work except reverse. Once the gear is in reverse all it does is rev just like its in neutral. Please tell me its not the transmission, what else could it be? what should i look for? i checked the tranny fluid and it seems to be fine.

 

I think you should just get a new trans. I work for a salvage yard near milwaukee and we see that problem often. i am pretty sure we have a trans in stock. IM me for 411

 

I just got back from a transmission shop, and they told me id have to replace my trans. They quoted me $1100...is that a good deal?

 

no it isn't. what year? an auto tran should be very cheap. check with someone who did an auto to manual swap.

man thats so expensive. You can buy a rebuild kit for like 300-400 bucks and have someone do it for u on the side or just buy another trans for like 100-300 depends where though.

 

Repairs to auto trannies are always more than repairs to manual trannies.

For that car i would find a good used one somewhere. You could most likely get one for under 200 if you look good. No use in putting in a tranny that is worth almost as much as the car. You could do a manual conversion and get a d16z6 for about 6 or 7 hundred if you did the work. you could even find an auto d16 for that kind of money. Hope this helped
