Car spitting, surging and sputtering
I have a 92 vx hatch with a 2nd gen jdm b16a, other than that pretty much stock.
My car has got some issues.
Symptoms:
- Car spitting and sputtering, jerking to where its undriveable
- Surges at idle, but stops after a while.
- No Ecu codes
Notes:
- In the morning after the car has set up all night the car cranks right up and drives fine, however if I stop turn the car off and take back off it starts acting up again.
- Problem first showed up when its got hot and humid down here (about 95F and 100% humidity)
- During early afternoon it is the worst
- If I floor the gas pedal the car picks up and revs well in high rpm as soon as I come off of it the car spitts and sputters and the tach needle jumps or goes to 0 rpm while the car sounds like it runs on 1 or 2 cylinders.
- If I turn on the A/C or any other kind of accessory that draws power from the battery the car runs fine for a while it starts messing up again and I can turn on additional accesories to make it run better for a while longer.
- If I pull the green plug out of the alternator the car goes from rough idle to smooth idle.
Checked things
- replaced the alternator - thought the voltage regulator was bad
- replaced the ecu - running a P30
- checked the MAP sensor - used one of a good running car and ran mine on the good running car
- replaced spark plugs (NGK irridium), plug wires (Duralast), Cap and rotor
- checked the Ignition Control Module -followed haynes manual
- checked the Ignition Coil -followed haynes manual
Please Help
I think it has to do something with the charging system...
