can't get o2 sensor out

does anyone have any tricks to get an o2 sensor loose?
i've tried pb blaster and an o2 sensor socket. i've also tried vice grips and an open ended wrench. i've done everything short of cutting the wires and just using a deep socket.
anyone?

You could try vice grips, but you're likely to ruin the head of the sensor. Are you going to reuse the sensor or are you trying to replace it?
If you're replacing it, and this one is going in the trash, why not cut the wires and use a regular deep socket like you mentioned?

I don't know what else you could do.
-Tried PB Blaster
-Tried O2 socket
-Tried vice grips
Maybe try to use a hammer and hit around the base of the O2 sensor where it goes into the header/cat. This might help to loosen it a bit and unseize it.

Look around for a better O2 socket. I've got one that doesn't have a cutout on the side. It's got a groove inside that's barely big enough for the wire, but it's not cut all the way thru the wall of the socket.

Did you try warming the exhaust up? Usually I let the car warm up for about 5 minutes before I try to remove the sensor. Comes out easier that way.....just be carfull of getting burned.

I'll have to remember to look see whether there's a manufacturer's mark or something on that socket.
edit:
Hey, BigMoose, that's the one. OTC. Except mine isn't split down the side. The clearance groove for the wire isn't cut all the way thru the wall. Does that make mine a collector's item??

You want this socket/tool The split sockets are pure junk for up here in the rust belt.
You can get it here: http://www.otctools.com/newcat...d=388
Also as said, hot exhaust, or I have used an oxy acetlene torch to heat the bung.

if you dont care about the o2 sensor the best way ive found is to get foot and a half long wrench. you can buy them individually at napa. then i welded it to the o2 sensor and kicked it while the header was in the vise. it was very hillbilly of me to do that, but i tried everything else, then i got it out, and it pretty much ripped out all the threads in my header(because it was rusted solid). so i stressed for so long when i should have just got a new header and a new o2 sensor. but i couldnt let it get the best of me! GOOD LUCK, it sounds like youre gonna need it
Heh, I heated one up recently with a torch and hammered the damned thing until it came out... Oh, but it DIDNT! Instead the thing ripped out, leaving the entire threaded portion of the sensor in the damned manifold... I have no idea how I will get it out now...
I used a different manifold until I can figure it out...

On my wifes Civic I cut the wires and used a socket to get it off. I tried everything else up to that point. By then the O2 was looking a little rough. One I cut the wires and used the socket it ame right off.

Heat it up! I use a MAPP gas torch with one of those quick pistol sytle piezo ignitors, click on click off. Takes longer than a proper torch, but its cheap and easy, still gets metal red hot....eventually
If you heat it up near red hot, then throw cold water on it that's supposed to help break it loose. Good luck man, living up north makes things like this tough.

I have had sucsess using deep creep & wd-40 or other rust type spray.
Sometimes you need to apply multiple times and let it sit for a while.
When you try to wrench it off, you have to "snap" the wrench, slow steady force doesn't work.
Sometimes, i have put the closed end of the wrench around it, and hit it with a hammer.
