Default can overheating cause lma's to go bad?

i was just reading up on lma's and i'm pretty sure i have at least one bad one.

i have a d16y8 with a turbo and blew a headgasket a few weeks ago. i immediately parked it in my driveway, yanked the engine and got the head and block resurfaced. i put an oem headgasket on and apr studs, and put everything back together. i adjusted the valves to spec (which i've done many times before successfully) and it still ticked.

it ticks at idle, even when it's warm, and up to about 3k rpm, then it fades away. the noise goes away if i leave the tranny in gear and let off the clutch to deccelerate. the engine still runs the same, but this tick isn't bearable to me. i was thinking that it might be a bad lma. the sound is coming from the head, and i dissassembled it entirely and took off every spring and rocker, and everything checked out. i didn't think to check the lma's, cause i wasn't sure that it coulda been a problem at the time.

i have almost 100k miles on the head, and with this last minor over-heating incedent i think i could've damaged one or more.

any ideas/suggestions? THANKS!!!

the lma's are pretty easy to get at on your motor, give the a slight push and if they pop right back up you know.
