Cam Seal Help.....Changed them twice and they keep leaking!!
My b17 has leaky cam seals. I have changed them twice, and they always seem to be fine for a day, then they start leaking badly. I have used lots of RTV silicone and still no luck. Can someone give me any tips on istalling these. I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
This may be a long shot, but is the area around them cracked or warped? Are you sure you are getting them in there right?
ARe you sure it's the cams seals and not the valve cover gasket? Did you also put RTV on the "corners" where the valve cover and the caps meet?
What kind of RTV are you using?

Use only HondaBond for the best results. It is made to withstand the head temps unlike some of the other RTV's

How many miles on this head? I have seen this at work, and the head wears down enough that there is play between the cam, and head, causing a up, and down movement causing a constant leak.

Permatex Ultra Gray = Hondabond (same stuff). That's what I got when I replaced my valve cover and plug tube gaskets and the cam end plug, zero leaks so far.

one thing to look at would be incorrect seal install, i have put seals in before and the inner part of the seal rolled over causing a nasty oil leak( honda sells a tool for this but i dunno the part #
) also check to make sure that the cams in the seal area are free from damage and debris as this can cut the seal rendering it useless i have seen people use a screwdriver to pry cam seals out big no no!

i dont possibly see how it could leak with new seals and a huge gob of sealant. i use a crappy aftermarket seal with a ton of red rtv. it might be your distributor o-ring.

ooo so its the seals with the coil spring.. i dont even use any sealant on those. just douse some oil on em and pop em in. even reused em several times. did you torque the cam holders correctly?
