Default Cam Gear Whining

My stock cam gears whine like there is no tomorrow. Any ideas on what this could be? It sounds like a bearing is shot, but there are no bearings that I am aware of.

that's what ive been told. any way to quasi-easily access this?

(without doing basically an entire timing belt change?)

ummm........easy way to replace it.........bassically you gotta remove the crank pulley and the upper and lower timing belt covers...........then from the wheel well you will see the tensioner. take out the 14mm bolt and remove the tensioner. make sure you dont loose the spring.

another 15min of work you could have the belt off too.........might as well change it........

DOH!

Just had a friend swap a new motor in the car and throw a new timing belt on (300 miles ago). So i dont need to change it, just loosen it up some.

so you probably dont need a new tensioner. you just need to re-adjust the current tensioner/belt. maybe you have it on to tight......

Loosen the tensioner bolt 180 degrees and then manually rotate the engine over 5-10 times to get the timing belt to tighten up, once you remove any excess play tighten the tensioner up and you're on you way. Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes max. HTH

Is it normal to have increase play in the belt if you turn the crank pulley the opposite way (clockwise) from its normal rotation?
