Quick timing belt question
So on my D16 Sol my timing belt has some slack. The belt is in perfect condition and I think it could just be the tensioner. I am going to change the timing belt and the tensioner, but my question is since the engine is already timed properly (no knocks, runs strong, only 60k miles...) do I really need to check the timing on it by putting it at TDC and all that stuff? Or could I just mark all the proper alignments before I take off the belt and the just put it on the same way?
The slack is on the front-most part of the belt's travel and it isn't enough to actually skip a tooth, but just to slap around some.

Re: Quick timing belt question (zueke)
As far as i know. The timing won't change as long as you remove the belt. And replace it without moving or changing the cams at all.
I've changed my belts in and out as well as cam gears a few times. I'd suggest TDC before you remove the belts just in case.

Set it at TDC using the Cam gear mark AND the crank pulley marks, because in the chance that it did jump a tooth you don't want it the same when you put it back together. Do that then replace timing belt as neccesarry check tightness after you put tension on the belt, if you think it is too loose tighten it more, start the car if you hear a whining loosen it a little.
