Default Cam gear ?'s

i remember a while back someone posting about on what advancing/retarding cam gears do. For example... advance the intake cam=more top end etc...

does anybody know what does what? i totally forgot from the lasttime it was posted.

TIA

If you retard the intake cam your engine will breathe better at higher rpms but you will sacrifice low rpm performance.

If you also advance the exhaust you'll have more overlap and more time in between valve events. This will allow you to make more power up top.

I'll give you guys some numbers and general characteristics.

112 lobe separation angle gives good low end reponse e.g. RV, Stop N Go Apps.
108 lobe separation angle gives good gives good overall power. Street Apps.
105, 104 lobe separation angle gives good top end power. Drag, Land spped Apps.

For example the low lobes on B-series Vtec are 112 and the high lobes are 108 so you get very little compromise with these cams.
