Ok guys so I got my motor together n in the car. But I read on here that if u change the cam caps u have to have it line honed n I wasn't aware of this till now. Well my problem is that I had two heads laying around for awhile n its possible that I got the cam caps mixed up im not really sure, since I didn't know this I didn't make it a point to keep them seperate. So now that I know this im worried. my question is what can I do to check n make sure I don't need to have it line honed? Thanks for any help
You might be able to gather them all up and look for numerbs on them to see which ones are matching set.
This is something i have always been careful of as mixing them up can be bad.
Also, if you hone those caps, you change the relation of the cam to the crank. Im certain there is a very very small tolerance, as even light scoring can render them useless.

best way to tell is to just remove the cams and put all the caps back on without the cams, then look and feel with your finger how the bore of them lines up with the bore on the head. if they feel dead smooth at all points on every cap, you have the right ones on the head. if any of them feel like they have a lip, aka are slightly off-center, they are the wrong caps.

Take cams/head/caps to machine shop and have them do the line boring/honing, it's not something you want to get wrong, and no you will not be OK, [dumb advice]. 94

Hey fcm is there a way to platiguage the cam caps? Before deciding to get it aline honed?
I checked a helms for integra. But that didnt show nothing.
youll be ok. but for sure to get the best out of your motor or your head in this case, is to get a line hone. i remember switching mine (on a z6 head so i didnt care) and took the head in to get it resurfaced and the shop would not do it cause of all the scaring from cam shaft. they asked what kind of work ive done and i told em i had switched out the cam caps cause i broke something (i forgot what). and they said that each cam cap is machined for each head and should not be switched between heads

Well im gonna check mine this weekend if I can n if it feels/looks like they're not lining up im gonna send them to the boy that bought my other head n he will send me the other ones. It would save both of us issues If we do got them switched. I've already let him know what's going on. Thanks for the replies

Figured I would update this thread. I sent the guy the caps I had n he was supposed to send me the ones he had n I never got them. So either he beat me or usps lost them, I really don't know. So now I got an itr paperweight so I'm in the process of getting another head. This blows big time.. It's a big set back cuz I been waiting since the end of nov for them to come n now I gotta pull the head n get new studs n head gasket. N also when I get this other head I'm gonna atleast get new seals n a valve job n possibly guides, which I already did to the other head. Ugh anybody know if it's possible to reuse my new bronze guides that r in this itr head?
