Cam Bolt Problems, Pls Help
Im in the middle of my Ls/Vtec build, gsr head, and I needed to replace the cam plate holding bolts. I replaced all of them with new ones from acura, but the ones marked in red below were black/dark color originally, and the dealer gave me silver/stainless looking ones. Other then the color, the thread pattern, size, markings are identical. Now when i try to torque the bolts marked in red, my torque wrnech never clicks, they just keep going and they stretch out. I tried soem of the old ones and they work fine. What could this be? Was i given the wrong bolts? Anyone ever had this problem before?
Sorry if im not clear, its kind of hard to explain, I will take pictures of the bolts if nescasary.

Thanks for anyones help Im really stuck on this one.

Sounds like they gave you a lesser grade bolt. The larger metric bolts have a grade designation on the heads, but not the smaller ones.I was going to say your torque wrench was out of cal but it works with your old bolts.I have used the original bolts over and over again with out a problem, they are not torque to yield fasteners.I would reuse the original bolts or reorder the bolts from another dealer.

One of the bolts was visibly stretched to begin with. I noticed when tearing the motor down, so I ordered a whole new set just to be safe. I had to wait forevor for them too.
thanks guys, i guess ill just go bitch at the parts guy.

I hope you kidding.

yea id rather just get the right bolts and do it all right. Im still lookin for these damn things... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1187102
When you go back to the dealership ask the clerk if you can look at the diagram with him so that you can point out the correct bolts. I've had a similar problem with the Acura dealership around here when I went to get the valve cover bolts. Some parts guys don't always know the exact details of what you're looking for.
Play it safe you don't want to break the bolts in the head, go back and double check with them.

I only wish it were that easy. The parts guy is definately ordering the right part as far as part numbers and the diagram are concerned, theyre just different then the ones that came stock. I dont know why, and three different acura/honda parts people cant really give me any answers.

i do the same, the toque on them isnt even that much so wrist tight is ok for me...
as for your bolts...the orignal are black because they are heat treated...you should get the right bolts...

I hope u are...lol ... Guess u havn't put too many of these together huh?? They snap too easily, regular torque wrenches you buy at most of the stores are barely within 10-15% of actual torque values.
First off, I can't imagine those bolts, M8 x1.25 I belive, stretching at 20lb if they're worth half a $hit. So you can actually take the one out that your torque wrench didn't 'click' on and it will be visibly longer than it's brothers out of the same new package?
Don't be scurrd to take your original bolts to a specialty fasterner place (I have made many new friends when rebuilding my head) and buy grade-9 metric fasteners for the same bolt dimentions for less than OEM price.
The unfortunate thing is that those are flange bolts, which are harder to find than the standard straight hex-head metric bolts.
