Default CAI v's Short Ram

I currently run a DAC Short Ram with a Bltiz Stainless Steel Filter on my CRX with the following:

B16a with DC 4-2-1 Ceramic Header, CTR Cams, Mugen Valve Train, Skunk2 inlet manifold, JG 68mm TB, ITR Fuel Rail and FPR, Spoon N1 ECU and a V-AFC.

I was wondering which is better a Short Ram or a CAI???

CAI is better for peak power
Short Ram is better for mid range power and faster throttle response

CAI ALL THE WAY!!!! i had a DC Sports short ram intake then got the cold air extension and i love it... alot of people will say its dangerous and that the filter clogs up with dirt but i just checked mine the other day after it being in there all winter and it was pretty clean, just a little dirt. Switch to a K&N filter and your good to go.

The danger with CAI's is hydrolocking the engine. The CAI sits low, and if you run through a deep puddle, you run the danger of sucking water into the engine. Water does not compress, so something has to give, usually it's a rod or two. CAI's do make o.k. power.

Short ram...it's cheaper. I seriously doubt a CAI would dyno much more if you could find a way to dyno it while the car was actually moving.

I ran my iceman as a short ram for a year or more... I decided to put on the extension one day just for ***** and giggles.... there was a HUGE difference... I don't know if that's always the way but it's night and day.

Also hydrolocking will ONLY happen if you FULLY submerge the intake (not the filter the WHOLE bottom lip of the tube) in water... even then you have to keep on the throttle HARD to get it to suck up that much volume of water... and a couple drops won't kill your car.

My buddy has a vw with the "swiss cheese" mod to his intake box he went through a DEEP puddle and sucked water... it stalled before he could shut it off (he was still in 3rd or 4th)... didn't try to start it... got it towed they pulled the plugs and shot like a quart of water out of it. Car is fine.

I've had my extension on for over a year w/o taking it off going through moderately deep puddles occaisionally w/no problems.

although the same money could be spent better saved towards something else.

Oh and mine makes the car FIFTY time louder than it is with the short ram.

I think the same way, i don't think that will be any difference if the car is moving.

It is. Apparently some people here have no idea what they are talking about.

I switch between my full CAI and the short ram all the time. There is a very noticeable difference between the two setups. With the full CAI, I feel a nice surge of power just after 4k rpms, and it seems to keep up for the rest of the power band - almost. The short ram smooths out the power band quite a bit, I feel a steady climb of power all the way up to whenever I decide to shift (7.5k rpms), the motor feels like it has a little more grunt at the higher rpms than the full CAI does.

The only sure way to tell which one is better is to run each setup against the clock.

I definetly agree MrTodd... right when i hit 4K i feel the difference and you can hear a difference to. the intake gets louder and it is really cool. I ran constant 15.7's with the short ram and when i put the DC Sports Cold Air Extension on i went down to 15.5. I am dead serious to. I know people are gonna say no way but the numbers do not lie. I recommend CAI to anyone over short ram.

Hydrolocking is really not a fear for me at all either, plus why the hell would you drive through such a big puddle... let me know if you have ever hydrolocked your motor by spraying the air filter a little... IT DOESN"T HAPPEN, drive through a damn river then you have a problem

or you can take a short ram and make an "ice box" for it

Thanx for the info guys, so the general Opinion is that a CAI set up will give you more power after 4k all the way to the redline.

This ICE box you speak of, any pictures or links???

Cheers
