Cai diameter for a Ls
I would think that you wouldn't need a very large one for an LS motor, being that it doesn't rev very high and thus doesn't require as much air as a VTEC engine would. I'd just get a 2.5" but I wouldn't get a cold air system. I'd keep the pipe relatively short, as too long a pipe can cause pressure loss and reduce horsepower.
I think aem is 2.75, but if the car is modded i would prolly go with a 3 inch, either cold air or cold air box.
Short ram makes more power, but the underhood temperatures mess everything up, and you'll loose power

Short rams dont make MORE power, they just make power higher
. Its flow quality versus flow quantity. If its a built LS, 3 inch piping would be great. Otherwise, the ideal piping is not so easy to come by. Ideally, you should go from big diameter to smaller diameter (an example of this would be the old ICEMAN intakes or the new AEM V2 intake). These both use different sized piping to make more power.
