Default A/C Recharge

The A/C compressor on my DD **** the bed - 91 Integra retrofited to R134a. So I discharged the system and replaced the compressor. Now it needs to be recharged. Can I use the DIY cans of R134a or do I need to go to a shop with a vac recharge machine?

how did u discharge the system? did u put it under a vacuum????

if you got yourself some r134a manifold guages you can use those......

usually when i put ac systems under a vaccuum, i use my manifold gauges, then once im ready to recharge, i use the refill/charge line deal that you can buy at your local auto parts store.....

similar to that but without the gauge

No it wasnt evacuated under vacuum.
So you can recharged an AC system that is completely empty with the DIY recharge cans?

well if u put in a new ac compressor, i would still recommend that you put the system under a vaccum.

and as far as adding oil i dont know if you added some to your compressor before it was installed or if u plan on filling it with one of those 4 oz oil charge cans and using a charge line similar to the pic i posted above.....but either way will work..

i believe you can recharge an ac system thats empty using DIY recharge cans, but i would highly recommend the system be put under a vaccuum since u installed a new ac compressor and the system was open...

Put it under vac for like 20 mins. And whatever you do, DON'T use the cans of r134 that have sealant in them. It will make for bad news if you ever need/want to service the A/C system.

+1

the autozone in my area, charges about 200 bucks to rent the vaccuum pump and the manifold gauges. when your done return the items and get your 200 bucks back. if u decide to keep the vaccuum and the gauges then thats fine.

i bought my snap on vacuum pump and gauges for a helluva deal back in auto tech school.....

its come in handy and has worked for me for the last 4 yrs...

Hah I wish it was 50 bucks. 100 bucks is the going rate for a recharge around me, called 4 shops.

Im going to do it myself if I can rent the pump from Autozone. I found a great DIY article - https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1665946
