Default bseries motor, vtec problem

info = 1st gen 1990 b16 (jap) y1/pr3 , car = 88 crx si

problem? vtec engages in 1st gear, and sometimes 2nd
will engage and than disengage a few hundred (more or less) rpm

like it bounces in and out of vtec? and than i get fuel cut @ 7200rpm when it is disengaged (of course, due to smaller lobe.. . )

tried different solenoid, same thing
checked all wiring, all good
checked grounds, all good

vtec has engaged in 3rd twice.. . but for a vary short time, (5200-5600 rpm) than disengaged...

any thoughts?

it sounds oil related.

also, why are you getting fuel cut at 7200? i didnt have vtec and i could go all the way to 8400 before the cut.
