How do you get the big Piston seal to seat itself? i can get it around the piston but then it wont latch onto the caliper...

you talking about when you slide the piston in it will not seat right? I just lude the piston up with brake fluid and it slides in.

I hope that helps!

no no no...

i can get the piston in, but there are 2 seals. one goes on the inside of the cylinder and it seals the brake fluid from leaking out. the other prevents dust from getting on the piston walls. I cannot get this dust cover seal to lock itself on bother the cylinder and the piston.

It either goes on one or on the other.

please help, its appreciated

The dust boot is a bitch. I put the boot on the caliper first, and then slid the piston through.

Find somebody or something to hold the boot open when you slide in the piston. Be careful not to tear the boot though. I ghetto-rigged some bent paperclips to hold it open. I'm sure there's a better way though. I'm curious too...

I tried to do this several years ago. Tried it until the boot actually tore. Got a remnufactured calipers at Autozone.

When I re-did a set of 90 Civic EX calipers, I folded the boot up (so just the lip that slides into the recess is at the bottom), and pushed her down. This worked well, boots were attached and sealed. It took a while, a lot of brake fluid, and quite a bit of swearing. I think next time I'll just get a set of re-manufactured calipers.

Someone suggested using a compressor to "blow" the boot up while shoving the piston in, but I immagine that creates a lot of back pressure to push the piston in against.

I think Im just going to go over to Midas and ask one of their guys to give me a hand...
