if you are talking about the line between the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder on the trans.... then absolutely DO NOT change from the hard line to a steelbraided one. the steelbraided has way to much flex when under pressure and will not have enough pressure to maove the slave cylinder. (noe i know somebody is going to make a stupid comment about how there are steel braided brake lines....well remember brake lines are only about 14in. long not five feet like from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.(trust me i have done it) you can however replace just the rubberline from the slave cylinder to the hard line it is only about 10in long. (ANY hose and fitting shop should be able to make you one.

You can use stainless line, and it works fine. Not as good as the stock hard lines, but they work. I did an auto to manual swap and all I could get my hands on were the SS line and fittings from summitracing.com . If you need the part #'s I could get them for you. But I would really suggest getting the factory hardlines. From what I measured, there is about 3/4" difference in the amount of pressing the clutch pedal in and where the contact point is for the clutch between the ss line and the hard line.

Slater and Todaracer @ Fastline performance can help.

I cannot find the link right now, but it is NOT the Subaru shop.

EDIT: found the link

You can get the short line from the hard line to the slave cylinder for around $20 from Technafit..

why would you want to do that when you can get a Fastline clutch line, professionally made for around 30 bucks? Personally I would not want to buy some leakey homemade line for the same price that I can buy one from a respected company that stands behind thier products.

I'm sure you could go to a local rubber hose and gasket (local place here) company and they could make you one. Just take them the oem line so they know what fittings you need.
