Default Both 'ludes down at once!!

The first one that went down is a 86 Prelude Si, with all the regular fac stuff, that is my work car. The fuel injector light would come on when I punched the gas too hard or when I idled too long, but went off when I shut the engine off and restarted. I stopped at a delivery a couple weeks ago, it was running fine before I turned it off, but it just wouldn't restart and hasn't since, just cranks over. I know it's getting gas to the engine, and the spark is a dull orange. Reset the timing, several times to make sure, replaced the distributor cap, rotor button, and coil. Pulled and checked all the plugs. Only clues, and they may or may not actually have anything to do with the problem, is the fuel injector light coming on, the injector for the 3rd cylinder has been replaced at some point, and the plug for the 3rd cylinder has some carbon buildup. I've tore half the engine apart trying to figure this out, and would love to not have to take it to a garage and pay out the butt.

The second car is a 98 base Prelude which I was driving for work until it went down a few days ago. I had replaced the CV axles, and when I started it for a test drive something stripped out in the lower end of the tranny. The intermediate CV shaft/jack shaft seems to be attached to whatever stripped, or is what stripped, but not sure. What could it be? What will I find when I pull the jack shaft out? Should I not even try looking at it and just take it to a garage? I'm good with basic stuff but can't rebuilt an engine or tranny.
