Bent valves or bad timing ???
My girls 96 Integra LS timing belt broke while driving...Before it snapped, the valves were tapping a bit...I changed the belt and waterpump yesterday and the car started right up...It sound fine, just like it did before it broke (valves tapping a bit, but silent when it warms up)...When I went to drive it, I gave it gas and the RPMs died down to 400 rpm, but didn't die...I have to hold the gas for a couple seconds for them to jump back up...But once it's above 1000 rpms, it revs fine...When it drives, its sputtering a bit and sluggish...Then I noticed the manifold was blazing hot ORANGE after a 15 minute drive!!! And when I come to a stop, it will die out sometimes...
Does this indicate the valves are bent or is the timing off ???

lol, i popped my hood one night after driving and not knowing my timing was off and i couldnt figure out why i could see in my engine bay at night with no flashlight....the header was fire red! i think it it timing to, but i still think after snapping the belt you should get a compression test to make sure everything is in order.

I did a compression test today...Here's the results...
#1-170, #2-160, #3-150, #4-120
I also adjust the distributor (all the way to the right, can't go any further) and its runs a lot better, but not how it should...
What ya think ???

I think that you have bent or horribly misadjusted valves.

I think your timing belt is off time and I think your battery wasnt holding up during your compression test, did you go 1 then 2 then 3 then 4, compression was getting worse, so was the battery, do it again in the opposite direction, valves are fine though.

the best way to find of is to doo a leak down test since you already did a comp test, and the and when i work at acura couople of years ago, when the belts broke 90% of them had a bent valve, did yoou adjust the valves also but if you saying it barley idles sounds like a bent valve, and you getting any missfire codes or do you have a check engine light if so what code is it reading
It wasn't that it babrely idles, it will almost stall out when you gave it gas, but it wouldn't, just hold the gas for a couple seconds and it picked right back up....It idles fine now....
I didn't adjust the valve yet, haven't had time, but I will this week...You said adjust them in a certain order ??? 1-3-4-2 , not 1-2-3-4 ???

You're not reading correctly....It idles fine, the rpms dip low when you hit the gas at first, but then it picks up and is normal....But when you get off the gas it idles fine...that was before I adjusted the distributor, not it idles and drives ok, but it's still off a bit....
I adjust them 1, 3, 4, 2, (firing order) but you have to turn each cylinder to TDC one at a time. By the book, you do 50% then turn the crank just one time and do the other 50%.
just pop the head off the engine and inspect the valves...I just had to do that. If you know what your doing its 30 mins to get the head off, 30 more to get the valves out, and 10 more to check if they're bent. I had 4 bent valves
If you don't wanna do that, do a leak down test. Best of luck man
