Default Bearing shells question

When rebuilding an engine,i ask you specialists.....is it ok to touch the Bearing shells? This guy did it and as he was doing it,i was like wtf?I never touched an engine b4 however all i do in my free time is stay here on HT,learning a lot a bout engines but from my common sense, it would be bad to do that.I know a lot about engines and such but just not minor building techniques, know what i mean? Here the guy im talking about,im sure you guys have seen this b4.

As long as your hands are clean.Builders used to say the acid in your fingerprint would effect the bearing surface.Just an old wives tail.

They're kind of hard to install without touching them.
