Default Bad valves?

Hey guys, I'm going to check my valves tomorrow and was wondering what to look for. How do you know you have a bad valve? What will it look like?

Any, and all help is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Goldfingiz

Do a compression test, then a leak test if 1 or more cyl shows low compression.

If I do a compression test, It could be something else as well. I don't know how ot perform a leak test.

Yes, a compression test will show if you have a leak. THe leak test will narrow where it is coming from. You need a cylinder leakage tester and a compressor. It basically injects air into the cylinder, then you listen for leaks at intake, exhaust, radiator, valve cover, etc.

Thank you Something is definitely wrong, because the motor is smoking. I think I got "blow by" I'm thinking it's either the valves, or the rings, so I was going to check the valves/guide/gasket first tomorrow. Anyone know what I should look for?

Thanks,

fiurst color of smote:

black = fuel
white = coolant
blue = oil

blue at idle = valve seals
Blue on acceleration = rings
white = head gasket

if your getting air coming out the the dipstick, and oil filler, and the PCV valve, your getting blow by from the piston rings.. when you do a leakdown compression test.. "Chargeing the cylnder with air at top dead center" and you loose compresion it tells you were... either the intake valves, (air release out of the throttle body) exhaust valves, (howleing out of the muffler), or piston rings.. PCV blowby, Oil filler, or dipstick entry. I belive Honda OEM rings alow 6-8% blowby at the rings.. if you can hear air bypassing, you defenetly have a problem.

Thank you! Very nice information in this topic. I really appreciate it guys.

I didn't gap my rings, could this be why I'm getting blow by? I'm using Hastings rings.

Yeah, yeah....I know I should have gapped them like everybody told me to ...now I'm back to square one! Hopefully it's just the rings!

the only real way to know, is to do the leak down compresion test.. it will tell you exactly where its going... weither or not its rings, or valves, and what valve exactly.

Are they easy to do? I've never done that...I've only done regular compression tests. Who sells the tools to do it? Would sears have it?

Thanks,
