Bad Problem?? *Please Help*
The specs of my car are in my signature, and it has apprx. 37000 miles on it right now. Lately it has been doing something very odd and one mechanic told me it's the tranny one told me it is the clutch. Now I know a little about cars but not enough to be able to tell what the problem is...here it goes.
Whenever I switch gears and punch the gas, there is a good 2-3 second delay where the RPM's will stay high (5000-6000 range) but just rev, even though my foot is off the clutch.
Then, a couple seconds later it will finally kick in and accelerate. It's to the point where I can't even peel out off the line anymore because it will basically rev for a second or two before taking off, and at that point the initial acceleration is crap. This happens in every gear.
Other then that the car is running fine ... if I drive normally, the car acts beautifully. There are no nasty noises or anything like that. Any input would be most appreciated!!!!

Clutch is fried.
Best way to tell.
Go 25 mph, put the car in 5th gear and floor it......if the RPM's rise and the car doesn't go, you have a fried clutch.

Not necessarily. It's probably worn down to the point where there's not much left on it to burn off & smell. It's just slipping, & slipping until the car gets going a bit. Once there's a bit of forward motion, the pressure plate is able to force the clutch to grip since it's not trying so hard to bite. If you follow what I'm saying.

Go with an ACT clutch kit.
get a six puck clutch with lightenend (sp?) flywheel and either heavy duty or extreme pressure plate

maybe some more information would be helpful...
He was just offering a suggestion as to what clutch he recommended that you get.
Bottom line is that you need a new clutch. If you don't know what clutch to get, and want opinions, do a search. You'll find plenty of threads talking about your different options.
