Default b20 vs itr oil pump?

So the oil seal on my itr oil pump just went bad and so i today i finally had a chance to replace it. While it was off i compared it to my stock b20 pump lying in my garage and looked at the gears and everything and their the exact same. So whats the deal? How is the itr one better? And I also looked up the pressure for the valve release spring and their the same.

Vtec vs. non-Vtec oil pumps are not the same, B20 is not vtec so you need the oilpump that matches the head you are using. This link has some really good info as to what the differences are and the consequences of those differences:

I believe the 96+ b series oil pumps are identical. For example, look up the part numbers for a 99 LS and a 99 type r.

Either will fit, not much of a difference.

I realize this is a REALLY old post. But is a B20 oil pump the same as a P72 (GSR/ITR) pump? Is it really just a washer difference? The pump on my B20b I just had built is fine, just need to know if buying a new ITR pump is warranted. I was planning on porting a new pump.

They are the SAME... same part number and everything. There is NO "washer" difference. The confusion lies with the "early" non-vtec pump, found in the '90-95 Integra LS engines... although these pumps appeared similar to the VTEC oil pumps found on the B16A, B17A or B18C1 applications from 1989 to 1995, internally they were different. The shimmed pressure relief valve spring was one of the differences.

Today, only TWO different part numbers are available and the difference is merely the outer casting. If you have a "B" series engine without a crank fluctuation sensor, and thus, the narrow bottomed lower timing belt outer cover, you order the 15100-PR4-A03. If you have a '96+ "B" series application, or you are simply using the "wide" lower timing belt cover (which fits over the crank fluctuation sensor), you use the 15100-P72-A00.
