Default b18c5crx

Just did a swap with type r motor into a crx. did the obd1 conversion harness at the ecu and used a gsr ecu. it boggs down between 5k to 6.5k and then the vtec pulls like boost. any ideas about the bogging down? if not i will be doing hondata stand alone and tunning out the bugs. all the ideas will help! I used the hasport mount kit but the driver mount bolted to the block had to be changed to an integra ls 90 91. I will have pics soon. thanks Paul

probably because you are using the GSR ECU. it has a lower VTEC cross-over because if has a stronger midrange due to the 2 stage intake manifold. that would cause your bogging. using a vafc would correct this problem.

EDIT: Noticed the GSR ecu grab a P28 with a single stage mani program

I dont think its that. I have a C5 and my VTEC is at 4800 with a small spike.

Chances are the fuel tuning is off.

VAFC + B&M FPR + Dyno time = You'll see some nice gains with bolts-ons and tuning with the VAFC....when you drop your VTEC point and add fuel you will be able to smooth the power delivery out and keep the motor safe.

I had mine at 5500 for a while...went to 4800 and gained 9+ftlbs at VTEC crossover and a nice mid range boost.

tuning

Another option is to use a 1996-1999 JDM ITR ECU. Although this ECU uses OBDII-style plugs, it is basically an OBDI ECU. It does not look for a second oxygen sensor, crankshaft speed fluctuation sensor, fuel tank presure sensor, etc. Although you will have to change plugs, this is no more difficult to do with this ECU than a 1992-1995 ECU. But the nice thing about the P73 is that it is made for the motor.

dont waste your money on that, all you need is a custom program p28 with a higher vtec x-over and a vafc would be nice too. but you dont need it. i got some really good programs for type R motors obd1 spec. makes alot of power over a stock jdm p73 ecu. let me know if you need some help.

the 96-99 ITR ECU is OBDI with OBDII connectors?

I agree, I just made a OBD1-nonOBD convertor for my friend's (jdmDXrex) 88 CRX... It just has a B18C in it for now so we'll get to see how it runs after I finish the motor wiring loom... As for the ECU, I just chipped a P28 with a SK2 prog and we'll see how that runs... I ****** HATE THE STOCK GSR (P72) ECU, it's maps are not set correctly for an R motor or even a GSR with a CTR IN cam... About a year ago I put my friend's (jdmEKhb) GSR into his EK it just had a CTR IN cam, SK2 manifold, Clutch Master clutch that started slipping after 6 months (that's why he went with ACT now, hehe), intake, and header, running a stock GSR computer... Anyways I've never liked that damn ECU on even a STOCK GSR motor cuz it just seems to bog and on an R motor it's even worse... It's VTEC is too low and the fuel/timing maping is just shitty... So anyways when he ran his GSR computer the car just went but it didn't pull and it wouldn't even break the tires loose first gear... Even with that running no passenger and rear seat on MT 20x14x6 slicks he ran a 13.29@101... About 2 months ago he bought a 98spec JDM ITR computer and god damn does that thing feel a lot better... It will atleast break the tires loose just punching it and pulls a lot harder on top end... We haven't got to run it at the track but when the season starts we'll try it out... For the Rex I would still just run a P28 however... It's just easier and you can get even better maps... Just my $0.02... Peace

Simplestyles. Do you have any pics on the install?? I am curious to see which mount kit you used and which axles. Sorry I know this is off topic. Thanks

I don't know what simplestyles has but I will always recommend Hasport for the mounts... I don't know what he's running for the tranny side upper if he's running the ITR hydro tranny... As for the axles I would just go with 90-93 Teg, including that intermediate shaft... If you try to use 90-93 axles with an SiR intermediate shaft you'll find that it is about an inch too long on the driver side... The result will be a thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump that increases with speed.... hehe My friend had this same problem when I did his swap... Good Luck

Thanks Kataku2K3. I am also running hasports with a modded tranny mount. I just was wondering how he did his and what it looked like. Thanks for the info though.

GSR ECU should not be used on anything but a GSR because the GSR has a dual stage intake runner manifold. Suggestion is to run a ITR ECU or a Del Sol DOHC VTEC ECU or Civic SI ECU. although on the b16a solutions the fuel maps are not as agressive. last note... easiest thing to do is get a skunk2 computer.
