B18c1 GSR block question
I recently purchased a B18c1 GSR block. I was inspecting it making sure the headbolt holes were not stripped. I took a headbolt, and only by hand threaded the headbolt in nice and smoothly in all the threaded holes. So I get to what I think is the last hole, and after like 3 initial turns it started to get rough. So I try again, same thing. I grab a wrench and with no intention to force or muscle teh bolt in, I turn like 3 or 4 more times until it got really hard and I quit. I then noticed the correct headbolt hole and it went in with no problems. danm, was I relieved (and feeling mega dumb). My question is, what is the threaded hole that I was initially trying ? Do you think that after the few rough turns (maybe 10lbs of torque) I could have ruined anything? I then put the headbolt in there again (only by hand) to see if any threads came out with it but nothing did. You think it'll be ok? Could I have messed anything up? Is this hole used for anything critical that could ruin the build? I plan on having P30's put in it and having it rebuilt. Im just nervous that my stupidity may have ruined a good block. The red arrows point to the hole that I tried first while the green arrow points to the correct headbolt. Thanks in advance for your help
Do you have a pic? Sounds like you tried installing a head bolt into an oil or coolant passage.
Edit: Sorry, my job blocked the pic from showing. Thats definatly an oil passage. Make sure you didn't screw anything up. There are probably metal shavings in there now.

I looked through the service manual and couldn't find anything.. I would see if there is a matching hole on the head or not for oil/whatever. I dont think it's a dowel pin hole (which you could only hope for), but I could be wrong..
well after I realized how stupid I was, I went ahead and put the bolt back in there (by hand only) and then took it out . No shavings were on the bolt. Upon putting it back in , it felt exactly like the first time I did it. It wasn't stripped out or anything. It was still pretty rough. I don't think that I caused any damage. I just don't understand why it was a little threaded as if something ws supposed to go in there. If I did maybe score up that hole, would that ruin a block? If it is meant to be an oil passage, would it prevent the oil from flowing or something? I just dont want to have this block built only to find out that it is no good afterwards ya know? Would you guys still use it? Like I stated above, I didnt force or muscle the bolt in at all. What do you think?
ya i would prolly use it.. just make sure you flush out the oil passageways just in case. I figure if your doing a build up you would probably already be doing that, so I wouldnt worry.. but i live life on the edge.. sumtimes you just gotta poke a hole in the condom haha
you'll be fine, get an air compressor and have all of the oil passages blown out. Worse comes to worse, you get some tiny tiny metal shavings mixed in with your oil and hopefully your oil filter will pick them up, if not there could be a problem. Could eat up your crank and bearings and what not if you're not careful. Just blow it all out with a compressor really really well, you should be fine.

Yep, that's the oil supply to the head. The block is fine.
I would remove the oil pan though and thoroughly clean the block w/ brake cleaner. Then I would clean the pan w/ soap and warm water to make sure there is nothing in the pan that could ever get picked up.
