B18C Vtec is not engaging and CHECK ENGINE light is on
Hi, today was rainy and this happened for the first time. When the car was about to hit VTEC point in 3rd, the check engine light goes on and the VTEC just never engaged. This problem does not happend in 1st or 2nd gear, just the 3-4-5... Someone know what's wrong. The engine is a USDM b18C1 with p72 ECU in a 97 Coupe. Also, can you tell me where the disgnistic port is located originally.
Thanks
Bo

diagnostic port for the ecu should be the blue connector, however if you dont have it in your car due to a swap, you can find the connection on the wiring harness on the GSR ECU here:

The service connector is probably lodged way up in your dash, but it should be located in the passender side area right up, under the dash. Use a flashlight and look for a GREEN rubber block.
There's 2 plugs that are inside of that green plug, pull out the smaller plug (either a blue or grey color) and jump it while your car is on w/check engine light on too. You can use a paperclip to jump the service connector, which will trigger the check engine light to blink and you'll get your MIL codes.
I'd show you some pics, but it seems my web server is down (damn pos).

uh ok..
is your MAP sensor hooked up? its the sensor thats on top of your throttlebody.
Having the MAP not hooked up will make your car run like total **** and your gas mileage should noticeably be reallly really shitty as well.
perhaps you have the MAP and TPS plugs mixed up, since they both use the same style of plug. check to see if you do..
Thanks
