Default B18C engine builders - Question about torquing

When torquing any of the bottom end components...main caps.. conrods....
Do you guys use just a torque wrench or a rod bolt stretch gauge or some other method?

I believe the helms says to go with 33lb-ft for the conrods, and the ITR says to use the stretch gauge. Can I use the specs for the ITR on the GS-R caps?

Any other tips? Hints? Before I go ahead with this procedure?

I like to use a stretch gauge for the con rod bolts. They have to be stretched to work properly, either by using the gauge, or by torquing and untorquing 3 times, but the gauge is more accurate.

If I am to use the gauge...would I need to torque..untorque it, like with the torque wrench method or is one time tightening enough with the stretch gauge?

if you have the gauge you just tighten it to the stretch listed. I'd hope you are using ARP rod bolts as they are only like $30. They come with specific instructions on what to stretch to.

The motor I am "building" up is just going into a hatch for daily driven and some occasional track time.

I've heard the stock rod bolts are more than adequate? no? yes? errr....

dont torque it and untorque it 3 times, torque it 1/3 then stop, then another 1/3, stop, then the last 1/3.

that torquing sequence is really only for new bolts.
the torque spec on those rod bolts is so small that you can achieve the
proper torque with one swing of the wrench which is what you SHOULD do.
you want to reach the specified torque while the arm is in motion.

you can just use the gsr torque spec instead of using a stretch gauge.
i have done both and they came out to be close to each other.
