Default Rod bolt stretch gauge question.

Im in the market for a rod bolt stretch gauge. Summit racing offers a couple of them, their version, the ARP version, and the proform and some others. Which one do you use or recommend? I will be using this only on my engine and my buddies, and if i don't HAVE to get the expensive $140 ARP one I will.

Secondly I just want to make sure I have this right. I will be using these for my ARP bolts on eagle rods. I have read the Evans tuning build where he used one, and a few others. Is it just installing the gauge and using a box wrench to reach the stretch spec?

I recommend the ARP stretch gauge. The Proform gauge I bought couldn't even hold up its own weight, so I returned it for the ARP gauge.

I use an offset, long, 12pt wrench because the last couple of thousandth's of stretch are quite a bit harder to get than the first few. A 12pt is recommended because you won't have much of a turning arch after the gauge is on there.

The one i've liked the best is this one.It has a very stiff spring in the guage and repeats very well.

It was quite a few years ago so I don't remember the price. You can probably email or just call them for a price.
