Default B16a1 vs B16a2

Any major differences in the 2 that I should be aware of? Got an LS/Vtec project going on and got a complete B16a1 head for cheap. But alot of stuff was made for the newer heads and don't know if that'll work. Advice?

There are a few subtle differences but no real major ones. Actually I have no clue because I've only researched my b16a and b16a2/3. I believe the b16a1 is european and I have no clue if there are differences. But anything you bought for a 99si, 94-97 del sol dohc vtec, should work in the b16a1 head.

head is the same, but the b16a1 is from the european CRX and Civic 'siR'... so it's obd0... basically, you need to put everything obd1 on it, as fas electrical stuff goes...

and they have the tendency to get the so-called VTEC-tick... lost motion assembly starts ratteling... but there's a trick using cheaper H22 LMA to fix that (search here on H-T)...

for the rest? maybe some minor changes in flow etc, and maybe the parts that go into the head... but it's the same casting AFAIK...

the only difference that i know of between the 1g and the 2g is the lost motion assembly...the ones on the 1g head were not made large enough to support high lift cams....so if u plan on changing the cams u must either go with the itr/ctr LMAs or u can use the prelude ones with a shim..i believe that rlz will modify ur 1g LMAs for 50 bucks....
the nipple for the 1g head is too small and with high lift cams there is a chance that it will slip off the lifter at full vtec lift causing it to bind and potentialy destroy ur head....might as well go with the 2g head and save u the trouble.

Well I already bought this head and might as well work with it. I had this head shop do the job for me in fixing up the cam journals and milling the head slightly. I had gotten some supposedly ITR camshafts/gears and asked if he could put them in. He told me that it wouldn't rotate or move and had to make new bearings for it or something like that, but now it's working properly. Was this right and are you figuring it won't last long? Oh boy... here comes more $$$ out of my wallet...

What did you mean the nipple is too small? Where and isn't there a solution? Oh and what's rlz?

**** i wish i had the picture comparing the 1g one to a 2g one...but heres one comparing a gsr with an itr one...they both have large nipples...ull figure it out by the pic...but just imagine that the ones from a 1g b16 had nipples considerably smaller than the ones u see pictured...that smaller contact patch is what may cause it to slip

i cant find the pics of the 1g ones but trust me if ur gonna change the cams to something larger id recommend swappin em out....
