b16a vs b18b
B16A OWNS The B18A&B in almost every car. But i am sure you see all of the b18 owners feel differnt about that.
B16 more horse power, shorter gears, lighter engine, But does have less torque.

now this isnt documented fact or anything like that. just someone i know. a buddy of mine blew his gsr motor in his teg. and put a B16A in it and yes he was smokin tegs, both LS and Gsr's. but like i said. dis doesnt mean its always like that. just in this particular case.
first of all, this shouldn't be posted here.
b16 in hatch will beat a b18b in a hatch due to top-end power.
b16 in teg will likely lose to a b18b in teg, not enough torque to move the heavier chassis.
regardless, it would be so close that driver would matter most.

when i had my stock b18b in an eg chassis no b16a owned me. just a fact. i more likely owned them. but imo nobody owned anybody cuz they were all good races.. the b16a is imho a very over-rated engine. i had jdm b16a in this same car back in 98 and hated that i have to drive at 5000rpm on the highway just to go 80 mph. fact is, b16a has a higher hp rating but the b18b has higher average hp. take it from somebody who has had both engines in his car.
in a race head-to-head same driver same car the b16a will fall behind at start and come close once vtec hits but then that redline comes quick and when u have to shift the b18b will already have been in the long 2nd gear. so in order for the b16a to win, it would have to play some major catch up with the b18b.
all in all... very close race. some1 should clone themselves and try it.

Nice fact about both of engines well all b16a lack torque,
now that my cat went bad and its gutted and leaky i can feel the struggle until vtec but all and all when kept in vtec itz pushing its limits... b18b suits a daily driver to me and b16a is a budget vtec ...

I understand that this is your opinion, but perhaps you would care to elaborate? It is an incredible engine. A nearly 15 year old design that is still relevant today? Hyped up sure, but over-rated? Nah.

Were you in 4th gear? What tranny did you have?

I would like to see two equally skilled drivers in this race. My money would be on the B16 everytime. I walk LS swapped EGs in my stock Si almost daily, its all in the launch. It wouldn't "come close once vtec hit", if it was being launched correctly it would be almost in vtec right off the bat. And sure redline comes quick in 1st but if I'm hooking up thats a good thing. You talk about the LS's long gears like longer gears are better, longer gears = slower acceleration. In the end the B18B would be the one catching up. Or at least trying.

ok...at the track (1/4) a B16 and B18C would hit better times than my B18b
But on the street I would smoke the same cars.
So I say street wise I'd go with the B18b....track wise I'd go with B16

Yeah thats sort of a given for anyone who knows jack about hondas. But no one asked about LS/VTECs did they?

this thread is pointless.it all depends on driver and how healthy the engine is.
I have a b16a in my 94 teggy for now.
My b18b used to hang or pass b16 civics with ls tranny, put a b16 tranny and it was a whole different beast.
TRANNYS play a big role
the b16 that i have now i rebuilt with specs and tolerances that i wanted, with stock everything besides i/cheap header and no exhaust i run 93mph at the track with a LS tranny
Strong motor

b18c/1
!
b18c/1
!
I guess for drag racing b18b is better in a long run because it has more torque but if you?re going to road race or autocross then go b16 all the way because of the higher revs.
