Default B16 Tranny

I replace the sychros hub on the B16 with some parts I had laying around. Wanted to know if GSR/ITR parts are interchangeable to the 99 B16. This was on the mainshaft, not the counter shaft. After I assemble it and tried to close the case, it did not want to go down. I even tried using different casing, no luck. Any one have some experience in this tranny stuff. Please shed some light.

Synchros and synchro hubs are all interchangeable as long as they're for the same gears... you can't use a 5th gear on a 3rd etc... Are you sure all the shifter rods lined up? There's another hole in the case for where the shifter mechanism is and it's hard to line up. I had to mess with mine where the shift-linkage pin goes, move it back and forth, and turned it. My case went right back on... it didn't want to go on at first.

I have tried for an hour straight to put this case back on. I am not sure if the rods are lined up correctly. Is there another secret to this madness of just putting a case on. I have done at least 10. This is the first.

If all the rods are lined up in the holes it should just slide into place with a few shake of the case. Make sure you placed the correct rods onto the hubs too.

check your gear stacks. sounds like you have a hub on upside down or something elese making it too tall to close the case.

Another problem that people have that are first time rebuilders are they forget to align the brake stopper ring on the end of the mainshaft, it has a tab that sticks out and will prevent the case from sliding down all the way as well.

Might as well post it here in case someone that actually knows how to search can get this bit as well...

what are you talking about brake stopper rings. you mean the two washer at the bottom of the mainshaft. Or is it attached to the mainshaft.

The brake stopper ring is a circular piece with a tab that sticks out from the shaft, it is directly below the mainshaft bearing.....
