b16 head with unknown cam caps
I have a b16 head with ctr cams. Im having hard time finding the tdc for the cams. The holes for the cam caps are on the side. Something ive never seen before on a vtec head. Can someones help me identify the caps if its the right one or not.Ill be able to post pics later. Still trying to find my camera. Thanks.
What? From my understanding, the cam caps are numbered, and for tdc you put everything down, amd you line up the cam gear markings are facing each other, and the words up shoud be perpendicular to the timing marks on the timing belt cover
Ahuh!!! I think youre right. The head has ctr cams and somehow im having a hard time findinv tdc on this because the cam gears arent both pointing up if I follow the holes for the tdc on the caps. Intake side is a little off.
Im getting a bit lost as to what you are saying..if the intake cam is off, why wouldnt you lock the cam down, then spin the cam with cam gear bolted up, and spin with a big set of channel locks or something?
since you have ctr cams in a older style head your not goin to be able to lock the cams in place. your going to have to line up the gears at tdc and crank at tdc to get timing belt timing correct.
ive never used those holes to lock anything in place even the last time I did my timing belt just make sure cam gears are at the right spot and crank is at the right spot.

I don't think you want to be swapping cam caps from another head Unless you want to line hone your cam journals to make sure their round.
FWIW even when the cams are locked in place there's still some room for error.
