Default automatic transmission shifting

i have a 2000 civic, with a 4-speed automatic transmission. i know that downshifing helps deceleration and cornering, but at what speeds should i downshift/upshift?

whatever speed the transmission decides to downshift at, or when you step on the gas.

get a manual.

do not shift your automatic like a stick. ever. you will break something and it will be very costly to repair.

I agree, but I drove my current hb when it was an auto like that and never had a problem the 2 years it was running. I was young then and thinking back now I wouldnt have done it even though it didnt screw anything up just for the fact its an auto.... Change it to a 5-speed its not as hard as you think

Given..I drove my mercedes like this a COUPLE times during the 6 months I owned it..However, most people dont know how to drive like this correctly and WILL break something. I know a guy who destroyed two transmissions on two different saturns.. and one on a monte carlo before picking up a manual car.
