Default shiftin in a auto?

is there a way to shift in a auto from a stop to gain quick speed?
shifting from 1-D4 didn't seem to work and the only thing that really worked was when i shifted from D3 to 2 back to 3 and then the vtec kicked in when i hit 2.

normally, you CAN'T shift in an auto, hence the phrase "automatic transmission"

Yes you can shift in an auto. I have a friend who drives his auto ls just like a shift stick. you just start from d1 and work your way up, just take you foot off the gas when you change gears, because it takes like 2 sec for the transmission to change.... If you read the manual it also tells you in the manual that you can drive you auto like a manuel.......

Actually, that does not hurt your tranny. It is the downshifting, not the upshifting, that can cause problems. In my auto I have to shift it manually if I am racing. I do it because my computer shifts the car a 6250rpm @ WOT. My car redlines at over 8000rpm.

that's what ive herd that upshifting will not hurt, but down shifting is what breaks a tranny. A long time ago a knew this dude with a civic it was 93 or 94 anyway he would all ways down shift, i told him that would **** up his tranny , he was like no i been doing it for years, any was i couple of weeks later his tranny broke, and the shop told he it was cause he would down shift
